Lobo Loss and All-In-All a Bust of a Night!
The Lobos must have been out the night before partying, because they did not show up to win. They played at the pace of Harvard and had the lead only a couple of times all night. They could not make 3 pointers to save their lives and played very sloppily for a first round tourney game. Is it a curse, as I believe only one UNM team has gotten a game further? Ryan can you correct me on this if I am wrong, which is quite possible. As were the Lobos a bust, so were players busting out left and right at the long table. Baker and I were busting players out quickly as the all-in's were being called early in play. Maybe it was because everyone wanted to watch the game?
I knocked out 3 players pretty quickly, all with inferior hands pre-flop. The first was Judd, I raised the minimum and Judd raised it up twice that pre-flop. The flop came out 6-9-3, I checked and Judd raised, I called. Then the turn was a Ten. I checked and Judd went all-in. I thought a while and thought he was trying to steal it away from me, I called since I was paired with pocket 8's. Judd turned over pocket 10's. Wow! The last card was a 7 giving me the straight and I had Judd covered by about 600 chips, so he was out. Sorry Judd! But, you were a good sport most of the night, until I heard from the couch, "Fuck Eliseo!" I'm pretty sure that was you Judd! Oh and by the way, that was a sneaky move to get to my left before the cards got in the air, Judd! Didn't quite work out for you! The next person to go was Chris, he was short stacked with a little over 2,000 chips. I raised the minimum with A-K, we were at 200-400 blinds, Chris went all-in with pocket 4's. I of course called. The flop came and nothing, nothing on the turn, and a sweet Ace on the river. Next was Carlos. Carlos is always very gracious, but I know that he hates getting in hands with me. For some reason, I always seem to come out ahead. I am his nemesis. But, no one hates playing against me than Tony K. So, if you feel the same way, talk to Tony K and then Carlos. More on Tony K in a moment. They have taken enough bad beats from me to last a life time! Carlos raised the minimum, everyone else folded, I called with A-10. The flop came and didn't help me any. Carlos bet, I called. An ace came on the turn. Carlos bet I called. The river came and Carlos shoved all-in. I thought a bit and then called, thinking he had a weaker ace. He turned over poket Queens. Not soon after was break. The one I think who took the worst of the bad beats was Kevin. Twice we watched Kevin get four card straighted all the way to the river to get elliminated on the second time. The first time we believe it might have to do with some slow dealing by Arty. The second time Kevin was with pocket A's vs pocket 10's.
Now a story about Tony K. I enjoy this story, as I am sure Tony K has not forgotten it anytime soon either. I don't remember all the other bad beats, except the one from the first time I posted (ripped into everyone) here. This was the first time I busted out Tony K. Tony K was running late, so we were dealing and posting blinds for Tony K. This was at Partap's house at the third table. I had the seat closest to the door. So, Tony K arrives and puts his beer in the fridge, opens one and sits down. He raises and I am directly to his left and call. I had pocket 10's. The flop comes A-A-7. Tony bets a fair amount, I get stubborn, kind of feeling he has an Ace and call. To the river and beautiful 10 peels off. Tony K bets a good amount and I call. The river peels off and Tony K shoves all-in. I call. Tony K had an Ace-King. I made the boat. He walked in, opened his beer, had a few sips, and was eliminated in one hand. Tony K said, "I didn't even finish my beer yet!" The last time he played, we were at Kevin's and I walked in the third table room to get a chair. He yelled, "oh no, your in here", not even a hi!
After break, my play was similar to the Lobos as I just couldn't get anything going. With the best hand being A-9, I was basically blinded out and giving my chips to everyone else with inferior hands that I did play cheaply. I managed to finish 7th, being busted out by Chocol at 500-1000. I was on the big with a stack of 5,000 and Chocol called, I checked. The flop came Jh, Qh, and Kh. Chocol bet 2,000, I went all-in with the remainder of my chips with an 8-9h. So, I thought I had a straight flush draw, but Chocol turned over J-10h. But, I stil had three outs, three 10's. Two blanks and it was over for the night for me. The Lobos had about 5 minutes left and didn't pull anything out either. So, the Lobos and I both went home without victories and our tails between our legs! Maybe next time! At least I get a another chance next Thursday. The Lobos have to wait another year. So, I didn't stick around long enough to see any results. My allergies were getting to me so I went home to take some medicine and go to bed. The cash game was a bust as well, I could tell Arty was disappointed. Maybe next time.
