1st Week at Tim's
Thanks to Tim for hosting. It was a windy evening, so we moved in doors. Fifteen players showed up to play, some more than others as some showed up who claimed to have sent text messages to buy-in late. We had a single spectator, whom we all encouraged to play, but to no avail. There was MMA on the Mac and the main event ended with a surprise quick knockout of the champ, Sylva. Poker play certainly slowed down as our attention was drawn to this knockout. I played short handed part of the night, as I lost most of chips due to subborness on my part in a hand against Brad and Partap who were directly to my left. Partap was dealing and Brad was controling the betting. I limped from off the button with Q-K and so did Partap at the button. Brad raised 3xs the big blind. I called and so did Partap. The flop came, 7-K-6, Brad bet I called and so did Partap. The next card was 9, a magic card for Partap. Brad bet, I called, Partap re-raised, Brad folded, and I called. I figured both Brad and Partap were full of it! We got to the river, I checked and Partap bet, I called since I only had top pair. Partap did have a hand, pocket 9's. At that point I was down to 675 in chips. I was able to gain a few chips by shoving and getting blinds. So, the next time I shoved I was sitting at about 1500. I waited until I got a descent hand, I think pocket Aces in the big blind is pretty descent and shoved all-in. I did not get any callers, a couple of players folded even though they had limped in with blinds at 100/200 it was a little surprising. So I picked up about 800 more. I was now sitting at about 2300. The blinds had gone up, immediately after to 200/400. The very next hand Evans goes all in for his remaing 1800. I call with pocket 10's. He showed A-8, no Ace on the board and I pick up another 1800 plus 600 from the blinds. So, I am at 4600, almost back to a starting stack. We table up right after break and I catch the deal, very nice! I fold almost a full round, under the gun, I pick big slick and shove all in. I get called by our host, Tim, who picked up a large amount of chips on a hand earlier in which he had pocket 5's and the flop came 5-9-5. He was able to milk it to the turn, but bet a little much on the turn and scared Partap away. Of course he showed the quads. Very nice! But, this time his luck had changed, as I spiked an Ace on the flop and doubled up to around 10,000 chips. There was a lot of raising going on as Louis had a big stack. I wanted a piece of that, when I was in the blinds, so I called to defend and could not get a cooperative flop. With the raises at 3,000 and 4,000, my chips deteriorated fast again. I was on under the gun again with big slick and decided to go in with 6 players left and 9,000 in my stack, blinds were at 500/1000 at this point. Louis called and turned over pocket Queens. No Ace or King to save me, I was out as this first weeks bubble boy. TK finished 5th in high fashion, as he shoved with A-3 and Louis called with A-2. Louis caught a 2 and TK was eliminated. TK was a little vocal about his luck or lack thereof. Louis couldn't catch much more after that and Kevin was soon to follow. Qtip somehow managed to milk his very short stack and catch some cards to go heads up. But, Alan was eventually able to stop him and take it down.
I missed last week, since I was in insanely hot Phoenix for the week, so if anyone wants to add to the blog to let us know what transpired that would be great! I will see you all on Thursday!
